What is Pilates?

Joseph Pilates developed his methodology, known then as Contrology, during World War 1 and refined it in the 20s, creating a series of movements focusing on flow, precision and control which we now call Pilates. Although his methods were prices to a specific number (34) of movements in a detailed order, Contemporary Pilates takes his original ideas and principles and applies them to modern day movements, which is what we focus on at the NATION Pilates Studio.
Reformer Pilates

Modern day (or Contemporary) Reformer Pilates uses the Reformer to create flowing, controlled movements, with added resistance using a series of springs located under the reformer carriage to allow exercises and movements another degree of tension. Known as variable resistance, our training focuses on core and spinal stability and joint mobility, using this lower impact (easier on the joints) method to keep continued resistance on your moving muscles and body stabilizers (this is why it looks so easy but feels so tough)
